Save yourself the aggrivation. Don't buy it or any other product from this company. Stupid me. Waste of $$. Customer Service said I would probably need an additional sensor. They keep telling you to take the batteries out and go through this elaborate process to install it.
TOTAL waste of time. Company not helpful in working with U to get it working. I bought this second sensor because I couldn't get the one that came with it to work. I fell for it. Major run around from Customer Service who don't know their product. Bad Bad product.
I own the weather station it is supposed to work with. Still can't get any of the units to work.
I take out the batterys put the same batterys in and it works for a one or two days and quits. Ever since day one I put batterys in it, it works for a one or two days and quits. I put in new batterys and no change, works one or two days and quits.
I guess time will tell. However, the 3U was sturdy and very tight. Therefore it is protected from direct rain, and excessive Sun. The original transmitters that came with my base unit are obsolete (tx 3U). I would definitely place this model in someplace similar. This model seems pretty cheaply made, and the way the battery door fits, I have to wonder how well it's going to do out in the elements.
The original lasted about three years, and the replacement (TX 3U) must be 2 years old by now. It was shipped fast, and works fine, so I could see no reason to not give it 5 stars. This unit replaced that model, and seems to be 100% compatable. I put my original unit under the eaves on the north side of the house.
It measures temperatures to -21.9 fairly accurately. They tend to last about 2 years outside. This is a fairly reliable sensor for the outdoors. I have gone through several of the sensors since I received the thermometer.
The sensor shows the correct temperature every other time; but the wrong one in between. LaCrosse is sending a replacement.
